Illawarra’s first 6-star NABERS Energy Rating –

Quality Green Group delivers on its name sake

Quality Green Group is proud to announce that 93-99 Burelli Street, Wollongong, has achieved a NABERS Energy rating of 6 stars. This is the first building in the Illawarra to ever achieve this highest standard of rating.

QGG purchased the property in 2013 and completed over $7 million in capital upgrades to the building in 2016 with a focus on energy and efficiency improvements. The building is now home to the headquarters of NSW State Emergency Service (NSW SES). These upgrades initially resulted in the building achieving a 5.5-star NABERS Energy rating in 2018, the first to achieve such rating in the Illawarra. Since then, careful management and attention to further adjustments, the efficiencies have improved even further.

NABERS is Australia’s national performance based rating that benchmarks the actual energy performance of a commercial building. A 6-star rating is the highest possible rating and indicates market leading results. This means the SES HQ is one of only 38 office buildings in Australia to currently hold a 6-star NABERS Base Building Energy rating.

In order to achieve such an impressive outcome requires the latest technologies and the ability to implement specific management systems. QGG has implemented similar applications to their other commercial buildings with two assets achieving 5.5 Stars

During 2018-2019, QGG began rolling out large PV systems totalling 288kW in size across all three office assets in the Illawarra to further improve energy efficiency. The 100kW PV system at the SES HQ was completed in August 2019. The building has now achieved a 6-star NABERS Base Building Energy rating.

Quality Green Group is leading the Illawarra office market in NABERS ratings owning 3 of the 4 highest rated buildings, all being at least 5.5-star.

“We are proud to continue in leading the Illawarra office market in achieving it’s first 6-star rated building. We want to have the 2nd and 3rd 6-star buildings and are on our way to achieving this” said Daniel Grozdanov, Group Manager of Quality Green Group.

NSW SES Commissioner Carlene York welcomed the news that service’s State Headquarters now has the highest possible energy rating.

“As we oversee the operations of NSW SES, it is important to be efficient with our resources, including our energy use.

“This is especially the case when responding to emergencies from State Headquarters, which often means members covering all hours of the day to assist their local communities.

“To have our State Headquarters equipped with this rating certainly helps our service be as efficient as possible,” Commissioner York said.

Director of MMJ Wollongong Travis Machan says, “this is an outstanding achievement for the Wollongong based property owners who have now positioned their building amongst the best in Australia. There is much to be celebrated here given that the building was constructed in 1988 with an environmental performance rating rarely seen in modern buildings today.”

Principal Consultant for Rana Environmental and NABERS Assessor, Levi Gibson added, “The strategic pursuit of energy efficiency and improved star rating outcomes by Quality Green Group embraces the business case for operational cost savings, enhanced rental yield, the retention of high calibre tenants, and an overall increase in asset value, outcomes clearly supported by industry data from across Australia.
